What is the One Million Pillowcase Challenge?

American Patchwork & Quilting is challenging you to help us reach our goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities.  Many charities can benefit from the donation of a pillowcase and the challenge gives you the opportunity to donate and make a difference in your community.

 

Is there a website for the challenge?

Yes. The full website, allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases, will launch November 15^th, 2009.

 

I own a quilt shop, how do I sign up?

You can sign up on our website today! Visit allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases and click on the retailer section of the site.

 

When will I receive my marketing and promotional materials from American Patchwork & Quilting?

A marketing kit with a press release, media pitch letter, and event ideas will be on our website in the retailer section after November 15^th, 2009. In January, 2010, you will receive a poster, buttons, counter cards, and window cling in the mail.

 

How do I participate?

Visit allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases after November 15^th, 2009, to find a participating shop in your area. However, if there is not a participating shop in your area, we encourage you to make a difference by creating pillowcases and donating them locally. Don’t forget to update the pillowcase counter on our website!

 

Where do I find the pillowcase patterns?

Patterns are available at allpeoplequilt.com/pillowcases. Three new patterns will be added each quarter.

 

Can I design my own pillowcase?

Yes, creativity is encouraged. Keep in mind, however, the intended recipient’s age and comfort. For creative ideas from our sponsors, click here.

 

Where can I find featured fabrics?

Visit the One Million Pillowcase Challenge website to find featured fabrics from our sponsors and links to find out more information.

 

What do I do with my pillowcase when it’s finished?

Visit the One Million Pillowcase Challenge website for a suggested list of charities, then check your local area for specific information. Or, check with your favorite charity to see if they would like the donation.

 

How do I report how many pillowcases I made?

Visit the One Million Pillowcase Challenge website to sign up and log in the number of pillowcases you’ve created and donated. Our counter will keep a running total of all the pillowcases donated to date.

 

Should I send you my completed pillowcases?

No. We want you to make a difference in your community. Visit the One Million Pillowcase Challenge website for a suggested list of charities to contact in your local area.

 

How long does the One Million Pillowcase promotion run?

For the 2010 year.

At that time, they will select and schedule projects for a full range of quilting publications, including American Patchwork & Quilting and Quilts and More magazines. We're fortunate to have so many great designers, including yourself, who submit project ideas—they sincerely hope you’ll continue to do so!

I've have just returned from Houston at the International Quilt Market.
